SBU completes investigation into murder of Andriy Parubiy, suspect faces life imprisonment

The Security Service of Ukraine has completed the pre-trial investigation into the murder of MP and former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy. The indictment against the suspect has already been submitted to the court. If the man is proven guilty, he will face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The SBU reported that during the investigation, law enforcement officers collected evidence not only in the murder case, but also recorded the defendant’s calls to overthrow the constitutional order and eliminate representatives of state power. Investigators also discovered a hunting rifle that the suspect was hiding in a hiding place at the Lychakiv Cemetery.

According to the investigation, a 53-year-old Lviv man was detained in September 2025 in the Khmelnytskyi region while attempting to illegally travel abroad.

“The accused is a 53-year-old Lviv man who was recruited by the Russian special services in 2024 when he was searching Telegram channels for information about his son, who had gone missing in the combat zone in the Donetsk region. After recruitment, the suspect carried out hostile tasks: he monitored and “leaked” the Russians to the locations of the Defense Forces, and also tried to track the directions of movement of railway trains with fuel,” the report says.

The special service noted that the man was later given a new task – an attempt on the life of Andriy Parubiy. According to the investigation, on the instructions of a curator from the Russian Federation, he received a Makarov pistol with cartridges, followed the politician and prepared an escape route in advance. After the murder, the suspect, according to law enforcement officers, tried to hide the traces of the crime, but the weapon with a silencer was later found in the forest. According to the investigation, the conducted examinations confirmed his involvement in the murder.

In addition, law enforcement officials claim that the defendant justified Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, denied war crimes, and glorified the Russian army.

As a result, he is charged with high treason under martial law, public calls for a violent change in the constitutional order, encroachment on the life of a statesman, illegal handling of weapons and ammunition, and justification of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine.
