SBU exposed the theft of 2.7 million UAH during the construction of the Armed Forces command post

The military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine have uncovered a scheme to embezzle at least UAH 2.7 million during the execution of a defense order in the Zhytomyr region.

“As a result of comprehensive measures, a co-owner of a private company was detained who embezzled money during the construction of a military facility. Thus, during the construction of an AFU command post on the territory of one of the military units, at least UAH 2.7 million was stolen,” the SBU said in a report.

According to the case materials, the defendant’s company received a contract for the construction of a defense facility. The co-owner of the company, who also served as a technical supervision engineer, was supposed to monitor the quality of work and compliance with deadlines.

The SBU stated that the official signed an act of transferring the unfinished facility to the balance of the military unit, despite the failure to meet deadlines. Law enforcement officers also found that contractors used poor-quality construction materials, which made the facility unsuitable for defense purposes.

Engineering and technical forensic examination confirmed the inadequate technical condition of the military facility. The defendants were reported on suspicion under Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for liability for official negligence.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement officers are identifying all persons who may be involved in the scheme.
