Scholz expressed the opinion that the war in Ukraine will be protracted

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed the opinion that the war in Ukraine will be protracted and emphasized the need to continue supporting Ukraine in the form of military equipment.

Scholz said this in an interview with the TAZ newspaper. According to him, Russia should not win in this conflict, and it is obvious that the conflict will be protracted. The chancellor also stated that there is no answer to the question of when the war in Ukraine will end, but Germany is ready to provide Ukraine with the necessary support during this period.

The chancellor noted that Ukraine’s strategy for victory is to prevent Putin from winning. So far, Scholz’s last conversation with Putin was over the phone in December 2022.

Scholz did not rule out the possibility of further dialogue with Putin, noting that “it will happen when the time comes.” He believes that such talks will only work if the situation can be changed, and he sees that the war is currently undergoing significant changes.

“Such conversations are useful when you feel that you can change the situation. However, the Russian war now says the opposite. In the past, I had several conversations with Putin, which were sometimes perceived critically. And I do not rule out the possibility of continuing the dialogue in the future,” Scholz said. .

Scholz also said that a dialogue with Putin can only take place when Russia understands that the imposed peace has not happened and Putin must withdraw his troops.
