There are no prerequisites for holding elections in Ukraine in 2026: CEC

Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Serhiy Dubovik, said that there are currently no prerequisites in Ukraine – neither legislative nor financial – for holding elections next year. He reported this on TV.

“I would pay attention to the draft budget of Ukraine for 2026, because elections are quite big money. Only according to last year’s calculations made by CEC specialists, 16-20 billion hryvnias will be needed for this. They are not in the draft state budget. Therefore, there are no prerequisites for the preparation of pre-election campaigns today – both legislative and financial, Dubovyk said.

He also reminded that the law on martial law clearly defines: during its operation, as well as during a state of emergency, elections are not held.

“The Constitution clearly indicates that elections of People’s Deputies of Ukraine cannot be held during a state of war and state of emergency, – stressed the Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee.

Let us remind you that on August 18, during a meeting in the White House with US President Donald Trump, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced his readiness to hold elections after the end of the war:

“We have to take into account the circumstances, we have to work with the parliament, because during the war we cannot hold elections. We must achieve a cease-fire both on land and in the sky, and provide people with the opportunity to hold democratic, open elections.
