Search continues in Kharkiv for people trapped under rubble after rocket attack
A Russian missile strike on a multi-story residential building in the Kyivsky district of Kharkiv on January 2 killed two people — a 3-year-old boy and a 22-year-old woman. 27 people were injured, seven of whom remain in hospitals.
The State Emergency Service rescuers, together with volunteers, have been clearing the rubble for the second day, as five more people may be trapped under the rubble of the office part of the building, according to preliminary data. There is no contact with them, so the search continues continuously, even at night.
“In Kharkiv, the clearing of the rubble at the site of yesterday’s enemy strike is ongoing. As a result of the attack, 27 people were injured, seven of whom are in hospitals. The woman, hospitalized in serious condition, underwent surgery — she is currently in intensive care,” — reported the head of the Kharkiv Regional Emergency Department, Oleg Synegubov.
The woman in serious condition underwent successful surgery, but she is still in intensive care. Local authorities are urging city residents not to approach the site of the destruction on their own so as not to interfere with the work of rescuers and avoid additional risks.
