Interceptor drones are almost twice as effective as mobile fire teams in destroying Russian Shahed kamikaze drones. This is evidenced by the data voiced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, General Oleksandr Syrsky, during a meeting with journalists.
“The Armed Forces are developing interceptor drones (anti-aircraft drones), the efficiency of which is about 70%, to counter the Russian “shaheeds”, – said the head.
According to Syrskyi, despite the change in tactics on the part of Russia, mobile fire groups remain an important tool in the fight against enemy drones. Their efficiency is estimated at 40%. Shahed’s overall hit rate is around 82%.
He also reported that the Air Force is actively increasing its potential in the direction of interceptor drones, new operator crews are being trained, and military training is underway. Thanks to the interceptors, it was already possible to destroy dozens of “shaheeds” in coordination of the Air Force with other components of the Defense Forces.
“However, the main problem with regard to the effective use of anti-aircraft drones remains the extremely insufficient number of radar systems (such as the Israeli Rada radar or its analogues) in service with the Air Force (available – units, but hundreds are needed). Radar reconnaissance tools are an integral component for the effective work of UAV interceptor operators.” – emphasized Sirsky.
He added that more than five types of interceptors have already been put into operation in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and procurement of the corresponding weapons is ongoing.
