Slovakia approved the decision to cancel emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine

Slovak state-owned energy company SEPS has announced its intention to terminate the contract with Ukraine’s Ukrenergo for emergency electricity supply after the country’s government approved the move. This was announced by the company’s director Martin Magat. According to him, the last time Ukraine received emergency electricity from Slovakia was in January.

“Ukraine last received emergency electricity supplies from Slovakia in January,” Magat said.

He also claims that Kyiv allegedly made requests for emergency electricity supplies even after Slovakia banned such supplies, but these requests were not satisfied.

The initiative to unilaterally terminate the contract between SEPS and Ukrenergo was submitted by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. On February 23, he announced the possibility of such a decision after the cessation of Russian oil supplies through the Druzhba oil pipeline. According to him, electricity exports may be suspended until the pipeline is restored.

At the same time, Ukrenergo emphasized that the cessation of emergency aid from Slovakia will not affect the stability of Ukraine’s unified energy system.

Meanwhile, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban also announced the possibility of stopping electricity supplies to Ukraine. Earlier, Budapest and Bratislava stopped diesel fuel exports to the country.
