Sociologists have studied the attitude of Ukrainians to the legalization of medical cannabis

41% of survey participants expressed a neutral or uncertain attitude.

The majority of Ukrainians have a positive attitude to the legalization of medical cannabis, and the attitude towards soft drugs is gradually changing. This is evidenced by the data poll, conducted by KMIS.

To the basic question (without clarification), 43% of Ukrainians answered that they support the legalization of medical cannabis. Only 16% of respondents expressed a negative attitude, while 41% remain neutral or undecided.

When the question specified that it was about the soft drug, marijuana, 45% of respondents supported legalization, which is similar to the previous result. However, the share of those who oppose has increased to 23%. A small part of the respondents (32%) remains neutral or undecided.

When the emphasis was placed on the use of cannabis for pain relief, the majority of Ukrainians — 57% — expressed support for the legalization of medical cannabis. Only 14% remain against, and 28% maintain a neutral or undecided position.

KMIS Commentary: Deputy Director of KMIS Anton Grushetsky noted that support for Euro-Atlantic integration, which is definitely approved by the majority of Ukrainians, concerns not only socio-economic and security issues, but also worldview aspects, including complex and debatable issues, such as the legalization of cannabis.

“The growing positive attitude towards the legalization of medical cannabis can be seen as an indicator of the modernization of the values of Ukrainians and their approximation to European and Western standards, which emphasizes the increasing integration of Ukraine into the European world”, – concluded Hrushetskyi.
