Son of cosmonaut, Hero of Ukraine Leonid Kadenyuk found dead in Kyiv

On the morning of December 10, the body of Dmitry Kadenyuk, the 41-year-old son of the first cosmonaut of independent Ukraine, Hero of Ukraine Leonid Kadenyuk, was found in Kyiv. The tragedy was reported by the mother of the murdered man, the cosmonaut’s widow, Vira Kadenyuk, who discovered the body in an apartment on Lesya Ukrainka Square.

According to information from family acquaintances, Dmitry’s body was found near the front door of his apartment. It was covered in blood and had numerous cuts, and the victim had a knife in his hand. No suicide notes or other explanations for the incident have been found. The nature of the injuries may indicate a possible struggle to the death.

Kyiv police have opened criminal proceedings under Part One of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for liability for intentional murder. A forensic medical examination will establish the exact cause of death and the circumstances under which the incident occurred.

Investigators continue to collect testimony, interview relatives and acquaintances of Dmytro Kadenyuk to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy.
