South Korea plans to launch AI assistant on Navy ships
South Korean company MakinaRocks, which develops solutions in the field of artificial intelligence, is collaborating with the 1st Fleet Command of the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) to create a digital assistant to improve the efficiency of management and maintenance of ship equipment. This was reported by Miliraty AI.
The project, called AI Advisor, has been underway for a year and is part of Seoul’s Defense Industry Innovation 100 state program. The artificial intelligence system developed by MakinaRocks will be directly integrated into South Korean naval ships and will be able to operate even with limited internet connections or small computing resources.
“We will increase the speed of decision-making by brigades and allow them to experience the usefulness of artificial intelligence in real fields thanks to a system where artificial intelligence directly provides complex operating instructions,” said Yoon Seong-ho, CEO of MakinaRocks.
AI Advisor is based on MakinaRocks’ own technologies and is capable of operating on platforms with low computing power. The AI will analyze operating instructions, technical manuals, and maintenance logs to quickly provide the crew with accurate recommendations for the operation and maintenance of equipment on board.
In addition, the system will be able to assist in the maintenance of ship weapons, in particular the 5-inch (13-centimeter) Mk. 45 naval gun, which will allow new recruits to more quickly master the rules of safe handling of modern weapons. The company notes that the implementation of artificial intelligence will allow for faster decision-making by military units and will contribute to increasing their effectiveness in combat conditions.
