Spain has become the largest importer of Ukrainian food

Spain became the largest importer of Ukrainian food in 2024, leading the ranking of buyer countries. Compared to 2023, when it occupied the fifth position, exports to Spain increased one and a half times – from USD 1,765 million to USD 2,679 million, which provided it with a 10.8% share in total food exports. About this it is said in the message of the IAEA.

The Netherlands took second place, increasing purchases of Ukrainian agricultural products by 41% – from USD 1,274 million in 2023 to USD 1,799 million in 2024, which is a 7.2% share in total exports.

Turkey took the third position for the third time in a row, importing products worth 1,658 million USD, which is 6.7% of Ukrainian agricultural exports.

At the same time, Poland reduced imports of Ukrainian agricultural goods by 15%, to 1,523 million USD, and Romania reduced purchases by 71% – to 836 million USD.

Other key importers of Ukrainian agricultural products in 2024 include:

  • Egypt – 1408 million USD (+32%)
  • Italy – 1,312 million USD (+26%)
  • China – 1302 million USD (-41%)
  • Germany – 1272 million USD (+48%)
  • India – 848 million USD (+145%)

In total, these ten countries generated 59% of foreign exchange earnings from agricultural exports of Ukraine.

The basis of Ukrainian exports traditionally consisted of grain crops, oils, fats, oil crops, residues of the food and processing industry, meat and by-products. In 2024, sugar and confectionery were added to them, which also showed growth in sales.

We will remind, according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, the total volume of agri-food exports for 2024 amounted to 24.84 billion USD.
