Ukraine to review lists of critical infrastructure to save electricity

The Ukrainian government is reviewing the lists of critical infrastructure facilities to free up more electricity for household consumers,Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced. Consumers that are not critical to the vital activity of the regions will be excluded from the lists.

Regional military administrations have been instructed to update the lists within two days. At the same time, the power supply to hospitals, schools, defense-industrial complex enterprises and life support facilities will remain uninterrupted.

In addition, local governments, military and utility companies must reduce electricity consumption. Additional lighting of buildings, festive garlands and advertising in city centers are not priorities during the energy crisis.

Street lighting and emergency roads will remain on – the relevant lists will be determined by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Police. According to Svyrydenko, the restrictions do not apply to electricity generated by enterprises’ own generators for their own needs.
