SSI raised $1 billion to build secure artificial intelligence systems: Reuters

Safe Superintelligence (SSI), a startup founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, has raised $1 billion in investment to develop safe artificial intelligence systems. As reported Reuters, SSI has an ambitious goal of creating AI systems that surpass human capabilities while minimizing the risks associated with the use of this technology.

The startup currently has only 10 employees and plans to use the raised funds to expand the team and increase computing power. SSI’s main offices are located in Palo Alto (California) and Tel Aviv (Israel), where a small but highly qualified team of researchers and engineers will be formed.

Despite the general decline in interest in AI startups, SSI managed to attract leading investors, including Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, DST Global and SV Angel. The value of the company is not disclosed, but according to sources, it is estimated at $5 billion.

SSI CEO Daniel Gross said the startup plans to spend several years developing the product before bringing it to market. The main goal is to ensure the implementation of artificial intelligence in various fields without harming society.

SSI also plans to work with cloud providers and chip makers to meet its computing power needs, but specific partners have yet to be identified.

Amid growing concerns about AI security, companies like SSI are particularly focused on developing solutions that minimize potential threats and help ensure the safe use of AI technologies in the future.
