Summer vacation season during the war: the State Emergency Service warned about the main risks during its opening
Spring trips to the country in wartime conditions require careful preparation, as explosives may remain in the areas after shelling, fighting, or the winter period. Specialists of the State Emergency Service and warn that the danger may be posed by vegetable gardens, yards, bushes, banks of reservoirs, abandoned buildings, and places where Russian attacks were previously recorded.
According to rescuers, the area that looked safe last season may hide fragments of drones, missiles, shells, or cluster munitions after winter or subsequent attacks. Some of these objects may lie on the surface, but individual fragments or ammunition can remain in the ground, grass, reeds or under rubble.
Owners of summer cottages in areas where active fighting continued, as well as in deoccupied territories, should be especially careful. Experts emphasize that you can enter such areas and start work only after checking with sappers.
When digging the ground, planting vegetables or arranging beds, you should carefully inspect the area, as explosive objects may be under a layer of soil. Any unfamiliar metal object, fragment, cylindrical part or part of the ammunition casing should be perceived as a potential threat.
When cleaning the yard, you should also avoid contact with unknown things that could have appeared after shelling or the fall of drones. Rescuers warn that fragments of missiles and drones can be dangerous even after they fall, so they should not be carried, disassembled or thrown away on their own.
The State Emergency Service emphasized that children may notice an unfamiliar object in the grass, bushes or near the road and perceive it as an interesting find, so adults should explain the rules of conduct in advance. In nature, you should stick to proven routes, avoid overgrown areas, former military positions, forest belts and areas where fragments could fall after attacks.
Places where ammunition can be hidden under leaves, dry grass or branches are of particular danger. Because of this, walks near the dacha, in the field or near the forest should take place only where the territory has already been inspected by specialists.
River banks, ponds, reeds and areas under bridges can also hide explosive objects. Specialists of the State Emergency Service warn that dangerous debris or ammunition can drift in the water, get stuck near the shore or remain on the paths to water bodies.
Before fishing or having a picnic, you should make sure that the chosen place is not located near the combat zone, destroyed infrastructure or former military positions. If a suspicious object, metal fragment or remnants of equipment are visible on the shore, the area should be left the same way as the person came.
Separately, rescuers warn those who plan to repair or restore summer houses. Destroyed buildings, abandoned vehicles, basements, utility rooms and areas near former positions may contain ammunition, stretchers, rocket fragments or other dangerous objects.
It is forbidden to enter such objects without checking by specialists. Even ordinary clearing of debris can pose a risk if parts of ammunition or objects that react to movement remain under the debris.
Specialists of the State Emergency Service advise to act calmly and without independent attempts to check the find. You cannot approach the suspicious object, touch it, move it, take close-up photos or allow children to approach the place of discovery.
The person should return back along the same route, warn others about the danger at a safe distance and call 101. Until the rescuers arrive, the place should be left untouched, since any action near an explosive object can have serious consequences.
