Swedish banker Mikael Björknerth becomes the new Chairman of the Board of PrivatBank

The Supervisory Board of PrivatBank announced the appointment of a new chairman of the board. This position will be held by one of Sweden’s leading bankers, Mikael Björknert, replacing Gerhard Bösch. This was reported by the bank’s press service.

Mikael Björknert has more than 25 years of experience in the financial sector, including in management positions. Prior to his appointment at PrivatBank, he held the position of head of Swedbank’s banking division, where he was responsible for a wide range of services, including retail and corporate banking, operations and digital transformation.

He is an internationally recognized expert in the banking sector and a strategic advisor to the top management of the world’s leading banks. In addition, Björknert was previously Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bankgirot in Sweden, managed international transactions at SEB (Estonia) and was a member of the Board of Directors at Nasdaq (Sweden).

PrivatBank noted that Björknert will focus on developing a client-oriented business model, strengthening digital initiatives and preparing the bank for future challenges.

“It is a great honor to join PrivatBank and its outstanding team. The bank demonstrates extraordinary resilience, and I look forward to the opportunity to build on its traditions of trust, innovation and service to the Ukrainian people.”, – said Björknert after his appointment.

His appointment still needs to be approved by the National Bank of Ukraine.

We will remind, in June 2024 it became known that the supervisory board of PrivatBank decided to change the management, and Gerhard Bösch, who managed the bank for three years, left his position.
