Telegram has introduced a new verification system for public figures and organizations

Messenger Telegram implemented an update that adds a new verification system for public figures and organizations. This will enable users to easily identify official sources. The initiative is aimed at reducing the number of fraudsters and the spread of misinformation.

“So that we can make sure that the accounts really belong to you, please indicate in the description of the profiles on these platforms a link to the corresponding page in Telegram. After that, you can leave a request to our bot @VerifyBot“, — the developers explain.

Now bots that have an official verification tick can apply for Verifier status. Once verified, they will be able to provide their own verification badges to other bots, channels or users.

The new icons are different from the official checkmark: they are placed before the profile name, not after it. Telegram also reports that each organization has the right to independently set conditions for issuing such badges. In addition to the icon in the profile, information about its source and terms of issuance will be presented.

The Telegram administration emphasizes that the verification system does not mean that the messenger supports the content or positions shared in such chats. It is designed to make it easier for users, journalists and researchers to identify official sources of information.
