The amount of unemployment benefits will be increased to UAH 3,000: Member of Parliament Yuzhanina

From October 1, the minimum unemployment benefit in Ukraine will increase by 500 hryvnias to 3,000 hryvnias. About this reported People’s Deputy Nina Yuzhanina, member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy.

She explained that the corresponding decision was taken at the meeting of the Fund of the mandatory state social insurance of Ukraine in case of unemployment. However, the increase will apply only to those who have at least 7 months of insurance experience during the last year, as well as registered internally displaced persons.

For people who do not have the necessary insurance experience, the amount of assistance will remain at the previous level – 1,500 hryvnias.

Changes in unemployment benefits

During martial law, the duration of unemployment benefits was reduced to 90 days. Before the start of the war, this assistance could be provided for up to a year. According to Yulia Zhovtyak, director of the State Employment Center, after the end of the war, Ukraine may not return to the previous practice of annual payments, as such support is too costly for the state.

Zhovtyak emphasized that the long-term payment of unemployment benefits can be a “luxury” for a country recovering from military operations, and emphasized the need to review the conditions for providing such benefits in the future.
