The Government has approved a mechanism for checking the integrity of customs officers

Cabinet passed the resolution “Some issues of conducting integrity checks and monitoring the lifestyle of officials of customs authorities”. The document, developed by the Ministry of Finance, introduces a clear and objective mechanism for checking the integrity and monitoring the lifestyle of customs employees.

The resolution approves the procedure according to which all officials of customs authorities are subject to inspection once every three years, as well as out of turn – in case of receiving information about possible corrupt actions by representatives of state or local authorities, including law enforcement officers.

Such checks are carried out by a specially authorized unit on prevention and detection of corruption of the customs service. If signs of dishonesty are detected, the materials are transferred to the competent authority for further action. This information automatically becomes the basis for opening disciplinary proceedings against the relevant official.

In addition, the document approved the procedure for submitting a declaration of integrity. From now on, customs officers must submit it annually by April 1, or within 10 working days after being appointed to the position. The resolution also defines the form of this declaration. The Government believes that the implementation of the new procedures will contribute to increasing the efficiency of the work of the State Customs Service and its regional divisions.
