The Biden administration is preparing to send $6 billion in support to Ukraine before Trump’s inauguration: Politico

The White House plans to deliver more than $6 billion in aid to Ukraine before Donald Trump officially takes office. This was reported by Politico, citing two representatives of the Joe Biden administration.

The $6 billion is likely to be part of the previously discussed $61 billion aid package in April that remained unused. Of this amount, $4.3 billion can be used to send weapons from US warehouses, and another $2.1 billion can be used to order weapons from US defence companies.

According to the newspaper, this plan is the only possible way the White House can help Ukraine obtain the necessary weapons.

However, Politico adds that even if the aid package is approved in the near future, ammunition and equipment are usually delivered over several months. Consequently, all these deliveries could be reconsidered by the new Trump administration.

One of the factors slowing down the transfer of aid is the need to replace the transferred weapons so as not to weaken the combat readiness of the United States itself.

Previously, Donald Trump and Vice President-elect James David Vance have repeatedly criticised the Biden administration for spending heavily on military support for Ukraine. In addition, he has repeatedly stated that he is ready to strike a deal to end the war before taking office, hinting that military aid could become a tool to put pressure on Kyiv and Moscow.
