The Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution on the reform of the blood system
The Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution that provides for the reform of the national blood system and a change in the model of its financing. From now on, hospitals will have a constant supply of blood, which will remain free for patients, reported in the Ministry of Health.
According to the resolution, the annual projected need for donor blood and its components will be determined for each medical facility where blood transfusions are performed. They will be provided free of charge by blood centers that have concluded relevant contracts.
The Ministry of Health also approved the reference price of blood. At the same time, local self-government bodies will be able to additionally finance blood centers from local budgets if their economic efficiency is lower than the established reference indicator.
The document contains a requirement for the proper functioning of hospital blood banks and the creation of transfusion committees. This should guarantee a stable supply of blood, so that patients and their relatives do not have to buy it themselves or look for donors. All those undergoing treatment in state and communal medical institutions will receive transfusion services free of charge.
Work is also underway to provide free blood for patients of private hospitals that have signed contracts with the National Health Service of Ukraine within the framework of the Medical Guarantee Program.
We would like to remind you that in 2024 Ukraine launched the “Donor Platform” – an online resource with up-to-date information on donating blood and its components, as well as materials for current and future donors.
