The Council approved Kuleba’s resignation from the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs

The Verkhovna Rada passed a decision on the resignation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba, who held this position since 2020. 240 People’s Deputies voted for Kuleba’s dismissal reported People’s Deputy Oleksiy Honcharenko. Kuleba himself did not appear at the meeting to report to the parliament.

Among those who supported the resignation, 182 votes came from the Servant of the People faction, 16 from the Platform for Life and Peace, 15 from the Restoration of Ukraine group, and 15 from the Trust parliamentary group.

It is planned to replace Kuleba with Andrii Sybiga, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, who previously worked as the deputy head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak. Nothing is currently known about Kuleba’s future plans.

Dmytro Kuleba was one of the few ministers who remained in office for the entire time after the formation of the government of Denys Shmyhal in 2020. His resignation came on September 4, just a day after several of his colleagues.

Kuleba, a native of Sumy, started his career in the system of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2003. During his career, he dealt with issues of Ukraine’s image in the international arena, cooperated with international organizations and was responsible for relations with the USA. In 2016, Kuleba was appointed Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the Council of Europe. From 2019 to 2020, he held the position of Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, and in March 2020 he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
