The court extended the pre-trial investigation in the case of NABU detective Ruslan Maghamedrasulov
The Pechersk Court of Kyiv extended the pre-trial investigation in the case of NABU detective Ruslan Maghamedrasulov for another six months – until January 21, 2026. The corresponding decision was made by Judge Svitlana Shaputko, reports the Anti-Corruption Action Center.
The court considered the issue of extending the investigation period so that the prosecution could complete the investigation and conduct the necessary examinations. The decision is final and cannot be appealed.
The prosecutors requested an additional three months for the pre-trial investigation to collect evidence and complete expert examinations. The defense categorically denied this, emphasizing that it was “unfounded and would lead to a delay”.
“Conducting appropriate examinations, questioning witnesses, obtaining materials, additional information – all this must be investigated. Moreover, any information may require additional requests, additional investigative actions”, – explained Prosecutor Ganilov.
At the beginning of the hearing, the lawyers asked for time to familiarize themselves with the materials and communicate confidentially with their clients. They also demanded that the trial be broadcast on the court’s YouTube channel due to public interest in the case. The prosecutor’s office did not object to the break, but categorically refused to broadcast online, citing the risk of disclosing the investigation data.
As a reminder, on July 21, the SBU, together with the Prosecutor General’s Office, conducted dozens of searches at NABU employees. On the same day, suspicions of crimes against national security were raised against the head of the regional department, Ruslan Maghamedrasulov, and undercover officer Viktor Gusarov.
The very next day, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law that effectively eliminated the independence of NABU and SAPO, explaining this by alleged Russian influence. However, after mass protests and criticism from Western partners, the parliament restored the powers of the anti-corruption agencies.
Currently, Ruslan Maghamedrasulov, his 65-year-old father Sentyabr, and Viktor Gusarov remain under arrest. They are suspected of allegedly selling industrial hemp to Russian economic structures.
According to the SBU, Maghamedrasulov acted as an intermediary in the supply of raw materials to Dagestan, while the illegal cultivation of hemp was allegedly organized by his father. However, the suspects themselves reject the accusations. The defense insists that the cases were opened for political reasons in order to put pressure on NABU and discredit it.
