The court extended Vitaliy Shabunin’s preventive measure until November 2
The Pechersk Court of Kyiv considered the issue of extending the preventive measure for the head of the organization “Anti-Corruption Center” Vitaliy Shabunin. The court extended the personal obligation until November 2.
This includes a ban on leaving the settlement where the military unit is located, the need to hand over passports for safekeeping, restrictions on contacts with the former military commander and another suspect in the Yushko case, as well as a ban on communicating with NACP employees and visiting the NACP building. The court’s decision is not subject to appeal.
Shabunin’s lawyer Mykola Umenets told Suspilny that the defense disagrees with this decision:
“The restrictions remain the same as before. The only change is the implementation of the rights of servicemen. Like for leave, for example”.
He emphasized that the defense does not recognize the prosecutor’s suspicion and considers the risks cited to be groundless. Vitaliy Shabunin himself stated that the State Bureau of Investigation did not include the episode of the theft of a volunteer car in the suspicion, although this was previously stated in official reports regarding his case.
“The case materials have already been opened, the court has restricted access until the end of October; after that, most likely, the case will go to court. The investigation allegedly collected and examined all the evidence; At the same time, the materials also include information that is not relevant to the case. In particular, they note that during the search, one of the SBU lieutenant colonels stole a phone, which later, according to them, ended up among the things being searched, and the correspondence from this device was included in the case materials, — emphasized Vitaliy Shabunin.
According to him, the lawyers plan to appeal both the procedural actions of the investigation and the materials included in the case.
Let us recall that on July 11, 2025, the State Bureau of Investigation announced Shabunin’s suspicion of alleged evasion of military service and fraud, noting that this was not related to his professional activities. According to the investigation, he was mobilized in 2022, but did not appear at his place of duty for a long time, and was also allegedly in civilian institutions under the guise of “business trips”.
On the same day, the SBI conducted searches in Shabunin’s house and in the military unit in the Chuguiv district of the Kharkiv region, where he serves. His phone was confiscated. The SBI also searched the apartment of Hero of Ukraine, pilot Andriy “Jus” Pilshchikov. The Central Criminal Investigation Department stated that the suspicion and searches of Shabunin are “arbitrariness and political reprisal”.
