The Czech Republic is modernizing T-72M4CZ tanks and is ready to transfer them to Ukraine (video)

The modernization program of T-72M4CZ tanks is ongoing in the Czech Republic, which, after the upgrade, can be transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was stated by the Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Republic Karel Rzehka, stressing that such a decision is in the interests of national security and will strengthen the allies’ defense capabilities.

According to Rzhehka, he plans to recommend to the government to transfer one battalion of these modernized vehicles to Ukraine – about 30 units. These are tanks decommissioned due to difficulties with repairs and a lack of spare parts for outdated electronics of the fire control system.

“The decision to modernize the T-72 M4CZ tank was made long before the war in Ukraine and the offer of free transfer of German Leopard 2A4 tanks. This happened at a time when the army did not have financial resources for the purchase of new tanks, and the only way to maintain the tank army’s combat capability was to modernize the existing equipment, Karel Rzehka noted.

The updated T-72M4CZ are significantly different from the basic versions. They received a 12-cylinder CV-12 engine from the British Perkins Engines with a capacity of 1000 hp, a modern Italian-made TURMS-T fire control system with the latest sights, dynamic protection, updated means of communication and modern sensors.

We remind you that in 2020 VOP CZ repaired 27 T-72M4CZ tanks, three command vehicles and three technical support vehicles.
