The Danish government allowed the construction of a Ukrainian rocket fuel plant despite legal restrictions

Known for the development of long-range drones and the creation of the “Flamingo” the Ukrainian company Fire Point plans to open a plant for the production of solid rocket fuel in Denmark. In order to get production up and running as quickly as possible, the Danish government decided to bypass more than 20 different rules and laws. This was reported by the publication DR.

After the adoption of the new law, the Danish government gained the right to cancel other laws, regulations and even limit the ability of citizens to file complaints, if it is about projects of strategic importance for national defense or in cases of civil emergencies. The document also provides for restrictions for citizens in appealing such decisions. The law expires in 2028.

The new legislation allows the Danish government to ignore certain regulations if necessary. In particular, in the case of the construction of a defense plant, it is possible not to apply laws on environmental protection, spatial planning or nature protection. There is also the possibility of forced alienation of property for the implementation of projects. In addition, the law simplifies the opening of defense enterprises, including Ukrainian ones, and the construction of military infrastructure.

“Maybe it was naive, but I actually had an idea that there might be one or two deviations from environmental and planning legislation in individual projects. But there are more than 20 of them, said Frederik Waage, professor of administrative law at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU).

Chief legal adviser at the Danish think tank Justitia, Kristoffer Badse, said that “the law was used to create exceptions to the maximum extent possible, and perhaps even more than was absolutely necessary.

According to him, the Fire Point company will be temporarily exempted from the requirements related to the control of the risk of major accidents involving hazardous substances. This means that the company is temporarily not obliged to comply with a number of rules aimed at preventing large-scale accidents and reducing harm to people and the environment.

The Danish Business Authority said it will continuously monitor the construction, cooperate with the company and look for practical ways to take into account safety, health and environmental issues.

We would like to remind you that on July 4, Ukraine signed an agreement with Denmark on the launch of production of Ukrainian defense enterprises on the territory of this country.
