The director of the Vinnytsia cardiac center was fired after the scandal with the purchase of medicines for the veteran

In Vinnytsia, the director of the cardiology center, Ihor Danylchuk, was fired after a scandal broke out due to extortion of money for treatment. Then the veteran’s wife was forced to buy 80,000 hryvnias worth of medicine and tools for surgery. Decision passed health care department of the Vinnytsia City Council based on the results of an official inspection.

Together with Danylchuk, several other officials were fired, but their names have not been disclosed.

“The situation in the cardio center is unacceptable. We will always react harshly and fairly“, said the director of the department Oleksandr Shysh.

He also announced the beginning of a large-scale inspection of other medical facilities in the city in order to detect and prevent similar violations.

“The director of the department appealed to the residents of Vinnytsia to report known facts of violations in the field of health care to the e-mail med_alert@vmr.gov.ua”, – the city council notes.

Possible abuses in the cardio center became known in March after a public statement by the director of the Department of Veteran Policy of the Vinnytsia Regional State Administration. According to him, he was approached by the wife of a soldier who told that the doctors of the cardiac center demanded to buy 80,000 hryvnias of medicine to perform an operation on her husband.

The Ministry of Health established a commission to investigate the case. The inspection revealed a discrepancy between the number of medical devices on the register and those actually used during the treatment of patients.

“This may indicate systematic use of unregistered medical products or even falsification of information regarding medical interventions”, – emphasized the Ministry of Health.

The heart center responded to the allegations by saying that all medical services are provided in accordance with appropriate protocols and standards and called the situation a “misunderstanding.”

We will remind that on March 21, a similar case was reported in Lviv’s “Okhmatdyt”, where the mother of a hospitalized child was forced to buy medicine and consumables that were supposed to be provided free of charge.
