The EU considers Russia’s statements about the preparation of an attack by the Baltic countries and Finland to be manipulative

The European Commission has issued an official statement denying accusations of the Russian leadership against Finland and the Baltic states. Earlier, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu claimed that these countries were allegedly facilitating the Armed Forces of Ukraine by allowing the use of their airspace for the flight of unmanned aerial vehicles for the purpose of further attacks on Russian territory.

Brussels stressed that such statements are not supported by any evidence and are part of a targeted disinformation campaign by Moscow. European Commission spokeswoman Anita Hipper said the states accused have already clearly rejected these manipulative claims. According to her, Russia systematically uses such tactics to create tension in relations with neighboring European countries.

European Union officials view such actions as an attempt to undermine stability in the region and to find justification for further escalation of aggressive rhetoric or retaliatory actions.

“I would like to point out the statements that we have also seen, where these very member states clearly reject this baseless claim. “There is therefore no evidence to support these claims,” European Commission spokeswoman Anita Hipper said.

The situation escalated after the Secretary of the Russian Security Council called Finland and the Baltic countries “open accomplices,” trying to link the successful operations of Ukrainian drones to assistance from NATO members.

In addition, the Russian Defense Ministry began distributing lists of addresses of European enterprises that allegedly have established joint production of UAVs with Ukraine, hinting at possible strikes on these facilities. The European Union considers such steps to be a dangerous tool of political pressure.

“It is quite obvious that such statements are part of the Russian information manual. They create pretexts for escalation and undermine regional security,” a spokeswoman for the European Commission summed up.

Previously, Russian propaganda has already tried to spread similar theses regarding Poland, claiming permission to use Polish skies to strike targets in the St. Petersburg area. The Russian Foreign Ministry even issued a “warning” to the capitals of the Baltic states, trying to limit their sovereign policy of supporting Ukraine.

European institutions assure full solidarity with Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in countering hybrid threats. Brussels continues to closely monitor the situation and calls on the international community not to succumb to Moscow’s provocations aimed at splitting European unity. Strengthening information security and refuting fake news remain priority tasks for protecting democratic values and peace on the continent.
