The EU insists that Apple open AirDrop and AirPlay for Android and other platforms

The European Union requires Apple to make iOS features such as AirDrop and AirPlay compatible with the Android platform to ensure “effective compatibility.” About this informs 9to5Google.
In accordance with document, published by the European Commission, Apple must make changes to iOS to improve its interaction with other platforms. This includes features such as support for notifications for third-party smartwatches and allowing third-party apps to run in the background, as is available for Apple’s own apps.
The focus is on adapting features that affect the compatibility of accessories, including watches and headphones. The document also notes that Apple should disclose the specification of its protocols so that third-party developers have the information they need to integrate.
In particular, this applies to AirDrop, which is currently only available for Apple devices, and AirPlay. Although it is supported by some TVs and other brands of devices, it still has limitations for integration with other platforms.
Apple has already responded to the EU’s demands with sharp criticism, arguing that such changes could jeopardize the security of users’ personal data.
