The EU sees no reason to lift sanctions against Russia
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas, said that today there is no reason to lift sanctions from Russia, which was previously stated by the head of the Hungarian government, Viktor Orbán. About this informs Barron`s.
“We certainly need sanctions. This is our leverage and it would be very strange to give it up. Nothing has changed. Putin has not changed his goals and nothing has changed on the ground. So there is no reason to lift sanctions.”, – said the official.
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the European Union has introduced 15 packages of sanctions against Russia. It is expected that the next decision on the extension of sanctions will be taken by January 31.
We will remind you that earlier the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, said that the EU should adapt to the “new reality”. He expressed the opinion that Europe should abandon sanctions against Russia and move to sanctions-free relations.
