The European Commission approved a program to strengthen the defense industry of Europe and Ukraine

The European Commission adopted a €1.5 billion work programme under the European Defence Industrial Programme (EDIP), aimed at developing and modernising Europe’s defence industry, expanding production capabilities, and supporting technological development and sustainability.

The European Defence Industrial Programme (EDIP) aims to strengthen Europe’s security by building up production capabilities, developing joint defence projects and deepening cooperation with Ukraine.

“This initiative demonstrates our focus on innovation, cooperation and strengthening the technological base needed to address current and future challenges. We look forward to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure the efficient and effective achievement of the programme’s objectives,” said Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Henna Virkkunen.

Commissioner for Defence and Space, Andrius Kubilius, noted that from now on, Member States, Norway and, for the first time, Ukraine will be able to receive funding for the implementation of joint projects and the expansion of production.

Approximately €700 million will be allocated to the production of anti-drone systems, missiles and ammunition, and another €325 million to launch joint industrial projects with Norway and Ukraine. The first projects will start tomorrow, which will be a practical step to strengthen Europe’s defense preparedness.
