The European Commission called the elections in Hungary a signal to allies of Trump and Putin

European Commission Vice President Teresa Ribera said that Péter Magyar’s victory in Hungary was only possible thanks to the “mass mobilization of the left” and democratic forces in the country. She said this in an interview with Bloomberg.

According to her, the defeat of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in the parliamentary elections is a warning to European conservative leaders, who may be encouraged to cooperate more closely by US President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.

“The election result has become a strong alarm signal for parties that were tempted by the actions of President Donald Trump or the interference of President Vladimir Putin,” Teresa Ribera emphasized.

She also noted that there are certain signals that may indicate a return left-wing forces to power in the European Union. In her opinion, one such example is the referendum defeat suffered by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Maloni in March.

In addition, Teresa Ribera drew attention to the emergence of unexpected allies, including Pope Leo XIV.

“He has become an idol in defending the fundamental values that have defined our society for the last 70 years,” added the European Commission Vice-President.
