The European Commission clarified the conditions of temporary protection for Ukrainian men of military age

The decision to extend temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens in the European Union, supported by all 27 member states until March 2027, applies to all Ukrainians without exception, including men of military age. This was reported by European Commission spokesman Markus Lammert.

The European Commission stressed that men of military age have the right to use the temporary protection mechanism in the EU for the entire period of its validity.

“Temporary protection is a decision we made at the EU level and at the level of the member states until 2027, that is, until March next year. The current rules remain in force, and that’s all I can say at the moment,” Lammert stressed.

He also confirmed that during the European legislation does not distinguish between recipients by gender or age – the same rules apply to women, children and men.

As previously reported, according to Eurostat, at the end of 2025, 4.35 million Ukrainian citizens had temporary protection in the EU countries. Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic accepted the most Ukrainians; if we consider the number of people, the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia are in the lead. At the same time, almost half a million Ukrainians who applied for temporary protection in Germany have already left the country.
