During the full-scale invasion of Russia, relatives of the People’s Deputy from the Servant of the People faction Gennady Kasai – daughter and nephew – bought real estate in Dubai worth one million dollars. This is stated in investigation the “Schemes” project from “Radio Liberty”.
The journalists discovered information about the Kasai family’s Dubai real estate in a leak from the United Arab Emirates public records, which was obtained and verified in cooperation with the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP).
It was established that in 2022-2023, the daughter of People’s Deputy Polina and his nephew Oleksandr, whose company supplied “scandalous” Turkish jackets for the Ministry of Defense, purchased luxury apartments in Dubai. In total, according to Schema’s calculations, the Kasai family owns four properties in this city, with a total value of more than a million dollars.
The journalists did not receive any official explanations regarding the origin of the funds spent on this property. Polina, who works as a copywriter and content manager, and Oleksandr, a former player of the Motor handball team and owner of shares in the business, declined to comment. In particular, Oleksandr is a co-owner of the Vector Avia company, which in 2022 received a state order for the supply of clothing for the Armed Forces in the amount of one billion hryvnias. However, the investigation found that these jackets were sold to the state at an inflated price and did not meet the required quality.
People’s deputy Gennady Kasai himself said that he had nothing to do with the purchases of his relatives. According to him, the nephew is an independent person, with his own life and interests, and the deputy does not control his financial transactions. As for Polina’s daughter, the people’s deputy explained that she has been living separately since 2019, earns her own money and makes decisions about her property. He emphasized that she is not the subject of the declaration, therefore it is not mentioned in his declaration.
