The court left the preventive measure for People’s Deputy Nestor Shufrych unchanged
The Shevchenkiv District Court of Kyiv left unchanged the preventive measure for People’s Deputy Nestor Shufrych, who is accused of high treason. During the meeting, the state of his health and the risks of a possible escape were discussed.
Sufrych’s lawyers asked to transfer the people’s deputy to house arrest, but the court rejected the request, and he will remain in custody until October 4. The defense side emphasized that detention does not pose risks, and the suspect needs medical rehabilitation. Five lawyers asked to soften the preventive measure, in particular to apply house arrest, referring to the deterioration of Shufrych’s health, in particular, hearing problems.
“Doctors reported that failure to undergo the procedure would lead to deterioration of health. It is possible to ensure the wearing of an electronic device, said lawyer Viktor Karpenko.
Shufrich supported the motion and said that he has been suffering from pain after the operation for seven months and has not received post-operative rehabilitation.
“I have difficulty moving around the room. It’s just pain, it’s constant. There are no risks, where do I run? Are you going to take me somewhere like Judge Chaus? – said Shufrych.
Prosecutors insist that the risks remain and are asking for a reduction in custody. At the meeting, the prosecutor also read a part of the indictment, noting in particular that Shufrych closely cooperated with the former secretary of the National Security Council during the Yanukovych presidency, Volodymyr Sivkovich, an FSB agent whose task was to coordinate the Russian agency in Ukraine.
The indictment was read for only one article, the rest of the materials are planned to be announced at the next meetings.
