The first paintings by Medvedchuk at the auction were sold for 317 thousand hryvnias, another 120 lots are waiting for sale
The first arrested paintings belonging to former deputy Viktor Medvedchuk were sold at the auction. The proceeds from the sale are planned to be used to support the economy and finance military bonds. reported Head of the Agency for Search and Asset Management (ARMA) Olena Duma.
The first 16 works from Medvedchuk’s collection were sold through the “Prozorro.Prodazhi” platform, earning about 317,000 hryvnias. The highest price – 76 thousand hryvnias – was received for the painting “Rural landscape with a river”.
Olena Duma noted that among the lots of this stage there were no famous canvases, such as a portrait of Medvedchuk himself or a painting from the series “bears in a pine forest”, which attracted special attention of the public and journalists. She also informed that the auction will take place gradually: part of the paintings will be sold every day. The next 19 works will be put up for auction tomorrow.
A total of 120 more paintings are waiting for sale. Of the 285 arrested works of Medvedchuk, 149 were recognized as cultural heritage of Ukraine. These works of art were planned to be handed over to national museums, but the relevant draft law has not yet been passed by the Verkhovna Rada.
Earlier, ARMA had already put Medvedchuk’s other confiscated assets up for sale, including a collection of expensive watches, a Maybach car, ATVs and buggies.
