Deputies adopted a law on the resumption of monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions
In the second reading, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law that restores mandatory monitoring, reporting and verification of greenhouse gas emissions. About this reported First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Tax and Customs Policy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
The People’s Deputy noted that this law is part of the Ukraine Facility Plan. According to the explanatory note, enterprises that emit greenhouse gases will again be obliged to submit relevant reports. 298 deputies voted for draft law No. 12131.
The monitoring and reporting system introduced in 2021 was converted to a voluntary basis during martial law. Its restoration will be the first step towards creating a trading system for emissions quotas.
Companies that exceed emission standards will be required to submit reports and, after the implementation of the allowance trading system, to purchase allowances or pay fines for excesses.
