The government allocated over UAH 350 million for generators and heat supply for higher education institutions and the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to allocate more than UAH 350 million to strengthen the energy sustainability of the Ukrainian education system. The main part of the funding will be directed to preparing educational institutions for the heating season and purchasing equipment that will ensure their energy independence. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.
The funds will allow educational institutions to maintain a continuous educational process even in the event of possible power outages, as well as guarantee basic household needs for students and teachers.
The largest amount of funding will be received by higher education institutions. Of these, UAH 125 million is earmarked for the purchase of generators, batteries, charging stations and inverters for the stable operation of the educational process and critical university systems. Another UAH 220.5 million will be allocated for timely payment of utility services and energy carriers, which will allow for a smooth heating season and maintain operational stability – heat, water, electricity, communications.
Separate funding in the amount of UAH 5.1 million was allocated to the Small Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The funds will go to equip eight locations of the MAN with charging stations, energy independence kits and diesel generators. This will allow young scientists not to interrupt their work with specialized equipment during power outages, especially in conditions where the use of conventional generators is impractical.
“The Ministry of Education will ensure the coordination of the use of funds in accordance with budget allocations and current procurement procedures, as well as monitoring their allocation for the intended purpose,” Svyrydenko emphasized.
It was also previously reported that 34 higher education institutions operating in front-line regions or relocated due to Russian aggression will receive additional funding in the amount of over UAH 120 million.
