The Kremlin commented on Trump’s statement about freezing the front line
Moscow’s consistent position on US President Donald Trump’s peace plan, which envisages the halting of Russian and Ukrainian troops on the current line of contact in order to begin negotiations, remains unchanged. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
“This topic has been raised repeatedly with various nuances during Russian-American contacts, and the Russian side has always given an answer, and this answer is well-known: the consistency of the Russian Federation’s position does not change”, — Peskov reported.
Commenting on Trump’s statement, disseminated in the media, that the first step to starting peace talks should be a ceasefire along the entire front line and consolidation of troops in occupied positions, Peskov noted:
“Well, this is a newspaper report, in general, there have been many statements on this subject”.
At the same time, the Kremlin spokesman emphasized that Kyiv is demonstrating a contradictory position on the settlement:
“We see very contradictory statements from Kyiv. We see that the position of the Kiev regime is also full of contradictions. All this does not contribute to the peaceful settlement process. We continue to communicate with the Americans on the topic of the Ukrainian settlement. Serious work is underway, and we will see what happens next. All the contradictions that we observe in Kiev do not contribute to this process, but rather, on the contrary, complicate it”.
Let us recall that on October 18, The Washington Post, citing sources reported that Putin, during a telephone conversation with Trump, demanded that Ukraine hand over full control over the Donetsk region to Russia as a condition for ending the war.
