The Land Forces explained the situation with the military registration of Ukrainian women and rumors about their mobilization
The topic of Ukrainian women’s military registration has once again become the focus of public attention after a wave of social media posts about alleged preparations for women’s mobilization. The impetus for a new discussion was stories in which women learned about entering their data into military registration, although they had no medical or pharmaceutical education. Against the backdrop of such publicity, the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine published a clarification in which they refuted rumors about any new approaches to women’s mobilization and explained what the identified errors were related to.
The cause of the resonance was the messages that began to spread on the Internet after cases of erroneously entering women into military registration. Because of these stories, assumptions appeared in the public space about the alleged preparation of the state for the mobilization of women, although there were no official decisions of this nature. The impetus for widespread publicity was the story of Iryna Kharatsidi-Loginova, a Kyiv resident who reported that she accidentally found out about her registration for military service, although she has no medical or pharmaceutical education. Later, according to her, she received a call and was informed that she was wanted as a draft evader.
After this story, it became known about similar cases in the Kharkiv CCC and SP, where, according to available information, at least 30 similar situations were discovered. It was after such reports that concern in society increased, to which the Ground Forces responded with a separate public statement.
The situation was aggravated by individual public testimonies of women who claimed that they had been registered without proper grounds. After publicity, the topic quickly went beyond private stories and became the subject of a wide discussion, in which the issue of military registration began to be mixed with the topic of mobilization.
The Land Forces stated that the information about the preparation for the mobilization of women is not true. The military called such reports baseless and manipulative, emphasizing that they are used to destabilize the situation in society.
In their explanation, the military separately noted that no changes were made to the legislation on the mobilization of women, and they are not developing any new mechanisms related to such a decision. The Land Forces emphasized that women can join the service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine exclusively voluntarily.
In a statement, the press service of the Land Forces also clarified that the obligation to register for military service applies only to female citizens with medical and pharmaceutical education. It was around this provision that a lot of confusion arose in society, since the appearance of incorrect data in the registers created the impression of a much wider scope than provided for by the current rules.
Thus, the military once again distinguished between two different issues that are often confused in the public space: the voluntary entry of women into service and the military registration of certain categories of women specialists. In their comment, they insisted that this did not concern any preparation for the general mobilization of women.
In its statement, the press service of the Ground Forces paid special attention to the situation with the “Oberig” register, where erroneous entries were found for some women. According to the military, some of such data could have been entered accidentally back in 2021, due to which individual citizens ended up in the records without legal grounds.
The command explained that it is impossible to correct such errors at the level of territorial recruitment and social support centers, since the technical capabilities of the system do not allow simply deleting data about a person who was included in the register by mistake. Due to this feature, the problem has gone beyond the boundaries of a separate TCC and SP and requires resolution at a higher level.
The Land Forces reported that they have already addressed the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defense with proposals to eliminate the identified shortcomings in the work of the register. The command assured that the situation is under control, and all such cases are analyzed for further correction.
