The largest upgrade in AI history: OpenAI prepares a financial leap that will shock the tech world

OpenAI, the developer of one of the world’s most popular artificial intelligences, is preparing for a major financial leap that could change the way we think about investing in technology. The company is planning a large-scale public offering that could potentially value it at around $1 trillion and set a budget for developing its computing infrastructure to reach $600 billion by 2030.

Such resources would allow OpenAI to deploy enough computing power to power tens of millions of homes.

In 2025, the company, led by Sam Altman, showed record figures: revenue amounted to $ 13 billion, exceeding the expected $ 10 billion, and expenses remained at the level of $ 8 billion, below the planned $ 9 billion. In parallel, OpenAI is completing one of the largest private financing rounds in history – more than $ 100 billion, including about $ 30 billion from the chip manufacturer Nvidia. If the deal is successful, the company’s valuation will soar to about $ 830 billion.

OpenAI’s main partner, Microsoft, expects that by 2030 the company’s total revenue will exceed $ 280 billion, with about equal shares between enterprise solutions and consumer products. Last year, Sam Altman announced his readiness to invest $ 1.4 trillion in creating 30 gigawatts of computing resources – the amount of energy that could provide electricity to about 25 million American households.

It should be noted that the large-scale deployment of artificial intelligence already requires enormous resources. In 2025, the cost of supporting the operation of existing models (logical reasoning or inference) increased fourfold, which reduced the company’s adjusted gross margin from 40% in 2024 to 33%. This highlights that even for an industry leader, rapid development is associated with serious economic challenges.

So OpenAI is on the verge of a financial and technological leap that will set the tone for the entire AI industry, and also demonstrate how large-scale investments in computing resources and software can be in the next decade.
