The National Bank sold more than $553 million on the interbank market over the past week

During the period from November 11 to 15, the National Bank of Ukraine sold $553.18 million on the interbank foreign exchange market, while the amount of purchased currency was only $370,000. About this testify data of the National Bank.

As indicated in the report, the sale of currency for this week decreased by $186.2 million compared to the previous period. At the same time, the volume of currency purchases also decreased significantly, amounting to $370,000, which is $3.63 million less than before.

In general, since the beginning of the year, the National Bank has sold about $28.4 billion on the interbank, and the total volume of currency purchases was only $125.6 million, which is significantly lower than the volume of sales. Such actions are aimed at stabilizing the hryvnia exchange rate and supporting the national economy.

Earlier, on January 25, the Board of the National Bank decided to leave the discount rate at 15%. This decision is related to the need to maintain exchange rate stability and moderate inflation in 2024 to approach the 5% inflation target.

In addition, on October 2, 2023, the National Bank announced the transition from the regime of a fixed exchange rate of the hryvnia, which allowed the official exchange rate of the US dollar to change from October 3, 2023 — for the first time since July 2022.
