The Ministry of Defense confirmed that people with HIV and tuberculosis can be mobilized (video)

People with asymptomatic HIV or a stable condition of the disease can undergo military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but each case is evaluated individually, depending on the impact of the disease on the person’s functionality. This was announced by the spokesman of the Ministry of Defense Dmytro Lazutkin during the broadcast of the telethon.

According to Lazutkin, eligibility criteria for persons with HIV depend on the stage of the disease. People with asymptomatic HIV carriers or those whose disease is in a stable condition can undergo military service and perform tasks related to the defense of the country. However, if HIV is in the stage of immune subcompensation, then such persons are suitable only for service in the rear. Meanwhile, those whose disease has led to immune decompensation are declared unfit for service and excluded from military registration.

Lazutkin also commented on the post of People’s Deputy Oleksandr Fedienko, who claimed that the updated order of the Ministry of Defense No. 402 provides for the mobilization of persons with hearing impairments, mental illnesses, HIV and tuberculosis. According to the spokesman, the main criterion for eligibility is the ability to perform military tasks, which is determined in accordance with current regulations, and each case is considered individually.

There are also clear criteria for people with tuberculosis. If a person has active tuberculosis with the release of mycobacteria or there is decay of lung tissue, he is automatically declared unfit for military service. The Ministry of Health has carefully prescribed the conditions under which tuberculosis patients may or may not undergo military service, Lazutkin emphasized.
