The Ministry of Defense has changed the procedure for payment of financial aid in the event of the death of a serviceman

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine introduced changes to the procedure for the appointment and payment of one-time cash assistance (OGD) in the event of the death of a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during martial law.

The purpose of the updates is to guarantee stable and predictable financial support for the families of fallen defenders, taking into account the increase in defense costs caused by full-scale Russian aggression.

The new rules apply to deaths officially confirmed by a death certificate starting on September 1, 2025. For families whose relatives died before this date, the order and terms of payments remain unchanged.

According to updates:

  • the total amount of one-time assistance does not change and amounts to UAH 15 million;
  • 1/5 of this amount (3 million UAH) will be paid immediately;
  • the remaining 4/5 (12 million UAH) will be provided in stages over 80 months according to a fixed schedule. This is approximately UAH 150,000 per month, which should provide long-term financial support to families.

Implementation of a uniform payment schedule makes it possible to strengthen the planning and sustainability of the assistance system, while leaving the operational part to cover the urgent needs of the families of fallen soldiers. The new order of payments applies to all units of the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine.
