The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is preparing new rules for assessing the health of military personnel

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is working on updating the list of diseases that affect the determination of suitability for military service. This was reported by the military ombudsman Olga Reshetylova.

According to her, the current health criteria have become more loyal due to the shortage of personnel.

“Because of this, many conscripts, formally recognized as fit, in reality cannot perform the tasks of the army”, – explained the ombudsman.

Reshetylova also emphasized that modern military medical commissions conduct mostly superficial examinations. If no obvious signs of illness are detected, a person is recognized as fit for service. At the same time, even physically healthy servicemen experience high loads and stress during war, which can affect their health.

The ombudsman paid special attention to the so-called “bouquet of diseases”. For example, diabetes, sciatica, or high blood pressure alone do not formally prohibit service, but their combination may make a serviceman unfit.

“Therefore, the fitness assessment should be carried out comprehensively, taking into account all diseases, and not separately”, – emphasized Reshetylova.
