The Ministry of Digitization announced the start of 5G testing in Lviv, Kharkiv and Borodyanka

Ukraine is preparing a pilot implementation of 5G – technology testing is planned in Lviv, Kharkiv and Borodyanka already this year. Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation Stanislav Pribytko.

According to him, about 22% of phones in Ukraine already support 5G, which creates the basis for faster commercialization after the war. The full launch of the network has been delayed until the end of martial law, but by 2030, 5G could cover a large part of the country.

Pilot projects should work out technical models and needs of subscriber equipment. The first test launch of the 5G network in Ukraine took place almost a year ago – it was a 5G telemist between Ukraine and Finland.

Prybytko was appointed in July 2025 as one of the five new Deputy Ministers of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov. Previously, he was responsible for the development of mobile Internet, now fixed access has been added to his competence. The ministry’s goal is to prepare the regulatory and technical framework for the rapid deployment of 5G after the lifting of martial law.

We remind you that the mobile operator “Vodafone Ukraine” together with Nokia, they already conducted similar testing of 5G technology in the city of Vinnyki last year. Lifecell operator in Lviv also tested 5G. Currently, 5G technology is operating in more than 90 countries around the world. In particular, the European Union plans to provide 5G coverage in all cities and on major transport routes by 2025.
