The Ministry of Education recommends universities and technical vocational schools to start training in August

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (MES) made a non-standard proposal regarding the organization of the educational process in 2024/2025. In connection with the tense situation in the country’s energy system, the department recommends that institutions of higher, professional pre-higher and vocational education start the new academic year already in August.

About this reported Minister of Education Oksen Lisovyi on his Facebook page.

“Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure force us to look for non-standard solutions. An early start of the academic year and a flexible schedule will help reduce the load on the energy system in the cold months. For example, we recommend universities, vocational training centers and professional technical schools, if possible, to start the 2024/2025 academic year for all but freshmen, already in the first half of August 2024. Also, in the warm months of the year, use Saturdays as working days., – noted Lisovyi.

Key recommendations of the Ministry of Education and Culture:

  • For all students, except first-year students, studies will begin already in the first half of August. In the warmer months of the year, educational institutions will be able to use Saturdays as working days to compensate for possible breaks in learning during the winter.
  • If necessary, the academic year can be extended until the end of July 2025, except for graduation courses.
  • The Ministry emphasizes that these are only recommendations, and the final decision on the organization of the educational process will be made by the heads of educational institutions, taking into account the specifics of each institution and region.
