The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained the details of the “naval truce”

The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heorhiy Tyhiy told about the details of the “sea truce”, rejecting the manipulations of the Russian Federation regarding the agreement on the restoration of the Black Sea grain initiative. He emphasized that the ceasefire applies to all Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea region.

At a press conference on March 27 in Kyiv, Tykhi reported that during negotiations in Saudi Arabia, Ukraine and the United States reached an agreement on a ceasefire in the Black Sea. This applies to both civil maritime transport and port infrastructure. In addition, he noted that the movement of Russian warships outside the borders of the eastern part of the Black Sea will be considered as a violation of the essence of the agreement reached.

“We are talking about stopping attacks on civilian ships and ports. By ports, we mean all Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea region, including those located on rivers that flow into the Black Sea, not just Odesa.” Tychy explained.

He also added that Russia “tried to mislead the international community” by presenting the ceasefire agreement as the alleged restoration of the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

“I state clearly: this is not true. No renewal of the Black Sea Grain Initiative is foreseen. This is a false interpretation. There is no mention of vessel inspections in the current agreement. This was not agreed upon. Ukraine has been independently providing sea transit thanks to the Defense Forces for a long time.” said the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to him, in the near future it will become clear whether Russia is complying with the cessation of attacks, in particular on port facilities.

“This should also be seen by our American partners,” he added.

Tychy emphasized that at the moment measures are still being taken to monitor the implementation of the cease-fire agreement.

“In general, the responsibility for ensuring compliance with the agreements is borne by the United States as the mediator of these negotiations. At the same time, it is important to involve third parties in this process. Currently, there are technical means of monitoring the ceasefire regime. Other options are also being discussed. Work in this direction continues.” he concluded.
