Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine presented a documentary called “The Way Home”, which highlights the complex and emotionally charged process of the return of Ukrainian soldiers who were released from Russian captivity. According to data released by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, on August 15 at a joint briefing with representatives of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Main Directorate of Intelligence, the Coordinating Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Foreign Intelligence Service, and the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, it was possible to escape from captivity to return 699 defenders belonging to the structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

During the last exchange, which took place on July 17, 2024, Ukraine returned home 95 servicemen, including 21 National Guard fighters and 5 border guards. Most of these Heroes have been held captive since 2022, enduring harsh prison conditions.

After arriving at their native land, the released fighters are immediately sent to medical institutions, where they are subjected to a thorough medical examination. In cases where the state of health of military personnel requires immediate intervention, they are hospitalized for emergency medical care. In addition to medical measures, a warm dinner awaits the soldiers, after which the process of reintegration and post-isolation adaptation begins.

These events are held in the medical centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, where recovery of lost documents, psychological rehabilitation under the supervision of highly qualified specialists, and examination by a therapist, dentist, and surgeon take place.
