The National Bank of Ukraine has issued a commemorative coin in honor of the Magura marine drone

The National Bank of Ukraine has officially put into circulation a new commemorative coin with a face value of five hryvnias dedicated to the Magura naval drone. This was reported by the regulator’s press service.

The bank emphasized that it was with the help of these unmanned surface vehicles that the Ukrainian military managed to destroy several ships of the Russian fleet. In addition, for the first time in world history, an unmanned sea platform successfully hit air targets — Mi-8 combat helicopters and Su-30 fighters.

The National Bank of Ukraine noted that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to effectively confront an enemy that has a significant military advantage. A significant role in this is played by modern developments of Ukrainian defense enterprises, which allow the military to carry out complex and non-standard combat operations.

The reverse side of the coin depicts a stylized Magura sea drone moving in waves. The upper part of the composition depicts the episode of the destruction of the Russian Su-30 fighter, symbolizing effective combat with the enemy both at sea and in the air.

Also on the reverse is the emblem of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. It was the special unit of Groop 13 of this department that used Magura surface drones during combat missions.

The obverse of the coin is made on a matte background and contains a stylized image of Magura – the proto-Slavic goddess of war, victory and immortality, the patroness of warriors, in whose honor the sea drone was named.

The authors of the artistic design were Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr Kharuk and Serhiy Kharuk. The sculptural part was created by Volodymyr Demyanenko.

The circulation of the commemorative coin is up to seventy-five thousand copies, which will be issued in souvenir packaging. The coin was put into circulation on December 12, and sales in the official online store of numismatic products of the National Bank of Ukraine will start on December 16.

In October 2025, a bill was registered in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which provides for changing the name of the circulating coin “kopeck” to “step”.
