The National Bank plans to test the electronic hryvnia next year
National Bank of Ukraine is planning in 2025, launch a pilot project for the introduction of digital currency – e-hryvnia. The National Bank noted that the implementation of this project will depend on a number of factors that may affect the launch date.
The basis of the e-hryvnia will be distributed ledger technology (DLT – Distributed Ledger Technology). Testing will take place in an open environment involving real users and payment service providers.
“In particular, it is necessary to take into account the readiness of financial market participants to participate in the specified pilot, as well as to identify a technological partner that will provide its technological solution for testing the e-hryvnia, which will meet the requirements of the National Bank and the architecture of the e-hryvnia, and to configure the corresponding infrastructure”, the regulator said.
The purpose of the pilot project is to check the technological capabilities of the e-hryvnia to perform the functions of money. It is also planned to evaluate its ability to meet the needs of users of payment services, as well as to check the possibility of programmed use of the currency.
“The e-hryvnia can have a positive effect on ensuring the economic security of the state, strengthening the monetary sovereignty of the state and the ability of the National Bank to maintain price and financial stability as a guarantee of sustainable economic growth”, the message says.
